Will Robots take your job?

From the title of this article you already know the question. So go get a clear cut answer to this, we first need to understand what is a job? A job is doing the work of providing something for someone else who wants the product of the labour. Now, is human deserve finite? No. so why do we have this preconceived notion that jobs are finite and once a job has been automated out of existence there is one less job to be done? As long as there is something someone wants but doesn't have it, there is a job providing that. And before everything else, why does it have to be machine versus humans? Why do we have this notion in our minds that machines and humans are competing against each other? Because as I see it, machines and humans are complementary to each other. We humans have emotional intelligence. We can show empathy, respect, sympathy foy others which a machine just can't. No matter how perfect your algorithm is or how fast your machine reacts it just can't react the way humans do. And the same goes for humans as well. Machines process such use the amount of data in just a click of a finger and can solve such complicated problems which is literally impossible for us humans to do.

So while it is certain that AI has dominated certain jobs, the fact is, and experts tend to agree on this, that it will open up new career opportunities for people who have higher level skills. Take the example of banks. Before centralised banking system (CBS), doing just one transaction used to be such a tiresome work. And for those who believe that AI takes over jobs, it's true I agree. But it creates much more opportunities for us. Earlier banks at few branches and used to employ people mainly for bookkeeping and accounting purposes. Now because of CBS banks are becoming so profitable that they are expanding to every Nook and corner of even the remotest village. And thus, creates employment opportunities there are also.

But we cannot forget that our country is a developing one and hence a large part of the workforce is living under poverty and does clerical and repetative work which are the majorly threatened by AI. In fact, even forbes says 'AI will replace tasks, not jobs'. But we must not forget that it is one of the fastest growing economies of world where poverty is rapidly declining. But where do these people go after their basic needs of 'roti kapda and Makan' are fulfilled? They increase their standard of living by sending their kids for higher education. Hence, we are seeing a drastic shift in job demands from blue collar jobs to white ones.

We can also see the same trend in India's education policy, which is lately been shifting from degree based to skill based. and why do you think our government is planning to introduce coding from class 6th itself? Because there is no doubt to the fact that the world is going towards automation. And in a positive way. The simple fact is that jobs are infinite and eliminating one job with automation just means that one of those other jobs that could not be done before because the worker was tied up in the former job can now be done as the former job doesn't require the person to do it.
